Welcome to the Joseph Academy pumpkin patch. These papier-mâché pumpkins were inspired by contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama, who is famous for using vibrating colors and polka dots.

Any time the word “game” is incorporated in class; the students eyes pop open wider. This last week we introduced Jenga task cards! After take a turn picking a Jenga block, students answered a grammar question task card that aligned with the color block they chose. They had so much fun during this center that they didn’t even realize how hard their brains are working.
Ms. Pham’s class took full advantage of the start of October with a special art project! Check out our spooky shadow boxes!
This week Ms. Pham and Ms. Hidalgo’s classes focused on castles and the system of government during medieval Europe.
Students participated in a role play activity to act out Feudalism and gather a further understanding of how land is exchanged for loyalty and service.
Today, students also participated in a STEM challenge to plan and build a castle!
JAMP first floor had a great time exploring nature at Chicago’s Garfield Park Conservatory. Our favorite part was participating in a scavenger hunt, where we used scientific skills to hunt for specific plants, make observations, and compare and contrast different plants.

In today’s, peer teaching activity, each group gathered information on types of castles and castle parts. They then taught the other group about their topics.
Peer teaching promotes active learning; as well as, reinforces students with learning by allowing them to take what they have learned and instruct others.

In order to demonstrate their knowledge of the lunar phases, Ms. Pham & Ms. H’s classes recreated these diagrams and labeled the eight moon phases.
JAMP students were eagerly waiting for Principal Malek to review their persuasive writing letters for an out-of-uniform Friday. Their letters had such great arguments and counterpoints so they were granted their wish.
